We understand that collaboration is a huge part of the creative process, so the Stem app makes it easy to split earnings between multiple shareholders, even on the compositions.
We calculate the statutory mechanical royalty from US digital downloads & separate them out as composition earnings. As long as your splits match a verified mechanical license, royalties are will be paid quarterly to publishers, or writers if they are self-published.
Composition royalties are eligible for payment after the net composition earnings (per shareholder) exceeds the minimum $50 threshold (See Payment Requirements).
Unlike sound recording (master) royalties, composition royalty earnings are not visualized in the Stem dashboard.
January 2020 Update:
If you list composition shareholders who do not yet have a Stem account, their info will be recorded but they will not be notified to join Stem. Mechanical royalties related to composition splits without proper documentation will be held until the licenses and splits are provided and verified to Stem.
